Formed in 2012, the Charleston Blockade Rugby Football Club is South Carolina’s first and only gay sports team. We are a social sports team in association with USA Rugby and the International Gay Rugby Association. All are welcome to join our all-inclusive team regardless of sexual orientation, race, or religion.

Never played rugby before? No problem. Our coaching staff and players will work with you from the ground up so you two can fall in love with the game!

Mission Statement
The Charleston Blockade Rugby Football Club in conjunction with the IGR (International Gay Rugby) actively works to end the stigma of homosexuality in sports. We welcome all players to join our all-inclusive team regardless of sexual orientation, skill level, race or religion. We are not just a local sports team – we are a diverse family of rugby players focused on community support and acceptance!

Community Outreach
In the community we support local organizations such as We Are Family and Palmetto Community through volunteer work and fundraisers to help their missions. Members of the Charleston Blockade also go into the community to help local homeless shelters, animal shelters, and children’s sports organizations. We are not just a local sports team – we are a diverse family of rugby players focused on community support and acceptance!
